Ibanda EC Assures Voters of Peaceful Local Government Elections
The Electoral Commission says all logistical and security arrangements are in place ahead of the rescheduled polls, following last week’s cancellation in Ibanda Municipality.

 

The Electoral Commission (EC) in Ibanda District has assured voters of a smooth, peaceful, and well-coordinated local government election, saying all preparations have been completed in line with the electoral roadmap.

The assurance comes after last week’s cancellation of elections in Ibanda Municipality due to errors on ballot papers, a situation that caused frustration among voters and candidates.

Speaking to Nile Post at her office, the Ibanda District Election Administrator, Aidah Barekye, said the Commission has since addressed all logistical challenges and received fresh, accurate election materials.

“We have received all the necessary election materials, including correct ballot papers, biometric voter verification machines, and other critical supplies, and they are all in good condition,” Barekye said.

She noted that the Commission has strengthened coordination with security agencies to ensure a peaceful voting process.

“Security arrangements are adequate, and we are confident that the election will be conducted in a free, fair, and violence-free environment,” she added.

Barekye further encouraged voters to turn up in large numbers and participate peacefully, assuring them that the Commission is fully prepared to deliver a credible election in accordance with the Electoral Commission roadmap.

The local government elections are expected to take place as scheduled, with officials emphasizing transparency, voter confidence, and adherence to electoral laws.
